What happens when a rose is dipped into liquid nitrogen? At the Peter & Paul Festival in Delitzsch in early July, numerous visitors of all ages had the chance to witness exactly that. With impressive experiments, hands-on activities, and engaging discussions, the Center for the Transformation of Chemistry (CTC) participated in the long-standing city festival with its own booth for the first time.

For many visitors, the frozen rose was the highlight of the day. After just a few seconds in liquid nitrogen, the flower became brittle enough to be shattered on a tabletop. The experiment not only amazed spectators but also provided an excellent starting point for conversations about fundamental chemical principles.

In addition, visitors were able to decolorize cola using activated carbon, create colorful artwork with red cabbage juice on filter paper, and even turn coins gold-colored. These interactive activities brought chemistry to life in an engaging and accessible way.

Engaging with the Community

We were especially pleased by the many interesting conversations with festival attendees. We were also delighted to welcome a delegation from the City of Delitzsch, including Lord Mayor Dr. Manfred Wilde and Deputy Mayor Patricia Groth, to our booth.

Guests from Delitzsch’s partner city, Monheim am Rhein, also visited the CTC booth together with Mayor Sonja Wienecke. In different ways, both Monheim and Delitzsch share the conviction that science and innovation can provide important momentum for the future of chemistry.

Chemistry Inspires When It Becomes Tangible
